We are Nick and Kristi from Spokane. We’ve been best friends for 9 years and together for nearly 7! We met immediately after we graduated from the same college and moved to Portland. Together we bonded over running, hiking, happy hours, good food, and sports. Since we’ve been together, we’ve run 3 half marathons, trail runs, multiple relay races, and a marathon. We’ve hiked countless trails in the PNW, Colorado, France, Iceland, Mexico, and Canada; and we’ve skied more runs than we can count. We rescued a puppy, remodeled a 1920s craftsman bungalow, and started a garden. We love to travel and frequently escape for mini weekend trips where we always find the local bookstore and a coffee shop. Nick enjoys cooking more than Kristi and Kristi enjoys gardening more than Nick. Chai is our only “child” and is embracing the millennial dog lifestyle.

While Kristi has unexplainably dreamt of adopting since she was young, we never anticipated recurrent pregnancy loss. As a couple, we were immediately drawn to adoption and knew that this was the path for us. We know there are so many babies and children that are in need of a home and we can provide a wonderful life for a child filled with love, opportunities for growth, guidance, so much play and outdoor time, warmth, and a large supportive, extended family. Kristi and Nick both come from large families that also include adoptees who will be able to provide a loving, supportive network and people for our adopted child to look to and share experiences with.

Nick grew up in a small immediate family with a younger sister in eastern Washington State. He is very athletic and can pick up any sport in no time. He was raised around educators and developed a love for learning and education that he still carries with him. He received a degree in Civil Engineering and is constantly reading anything he can get his hands on. He is analytical, very funny (so many dad jokes…), quiet, and fun-loving. While he is very introverted and generally reserved, he loves spending time with friends and family in small group settings over dinner or board games. He also has a deep love for nature and the outdoors and loves to go on walks, hikes, adventures, and seeking out new experiences. He has also recently developed a passion for music and loves playing his guitar. Nick is a deeply caring person, always thinks of others, and is great with kids. 

Kristi grew up with a large family on the beaches and soccer fields of California. She studied International Business Marketing in college on a soccer scholarship and spent two semesters of college abroad. She is also creative and loves to build and plan new things whether it is decorating the house, cultivating a cut flower garden (in process!), designing a website, or crafting a vacation for her and Nick. She just started her own design business out of our home which allows her flexibility to raise children. While she is an introvert and would choose cuddle time on the couch 7 times out of 10, she is also very social and loves spending time with friends and family. She loves taking care of (spoiling) our fur child and has been an incredible partner to Nick.
