Adoption of the Month - June 2014
My name is Laura and my husband Joe is retired United States Air force but is currently working a full time job. I am a stay at home mother and feel blessed to be able to care for our family. We have adopted 5 wonderful children that were all babies when they came into our family. Kayleigh, is the oldest and is 9 years old and in the 3rd grade, she loves to sing and likes school. Kacey is also in 3rd grade and is 8 ½ years old he loves dinosaurs and anything to do with science. Kaytie is 6 years old and in kindergarten she loves to do anything and everything and has a very caring personality. Kaylah is 5 ½ years old and also in kindergarten. She is our girly girl and loves to sing and dance. Kaidyn is 2 years old and he is all boy. He loves to do what all 2 year olds do, but also loves to try and do what the older kids are doing.
We always knew we wanted to be parents and have a family of our own. But after we were told we would not be able to have children we made the decision to become foster parents. And in the course of 10 years we helped out 47 kids that were in the foster care system and have been blessed to become the parents of 5 of those children.
Adoption is wonderful. These children need a stable loving home and parents who will love them and accept them for who they are. Foster-adopt, is a long process but so worth it in the end when you get to adopt and have them become a forever member of your family. It can be a bumpy road, but loving that child as your own and they learn what being a part of a family is all about. Sometimes a child that you have bonded and loved leaves your home and it can be heartbreaking. We know it all very well. When this happens you need to focus on all the positives that you helped contribute for that child. As every second, minute, hour, day and moment you spend with that child did make a difference in their life. Our advice is not to give up and always follow your dreams because dreams do come true. We have been blessed with 5 wonderful children that have enriched our lives beyond comprehension.
Mark Iverson is just awesome! He was our adoption attorney for all 5 of our kidos. He is so friendly, answers all your questions and listens to you. He makes your adoption at the courthouse fun and full of memories. You can request things to be done at your adoption and he helps to set it up. We really liked that he has everyone introduce themselves and how they know us. We have enjoyed this so much because when you look back at the videos you forget names of the people who participated in the adoption process. Mr. Iverson and his office always return your calls quickly. Mark is very honest, caring, and a joy to work with.
Adoption has just been a wonderful experience for us. This is how we became a forever family and we feel so blessed. Our children were born from our hearts. Our children are our hero’s. They are all so brave and determined and the love and bonding they show for each other is amazing. Being parents to these 5 wonderful children is a dream come true. We really enjoy sharing each and every exciting moment with them as they grow. God is wonderful and Adoption is a very beautiful blessing.
